It definitely feels that way. The platformization narrative is a slick way to bundle products and push legacy roles to the side. When they talk about 'synergy' and 'streamlining,' it usually translates to fewer people doing more work for the same pay. I’ve noticed the same exodus of talent—the people who actually know how the legacy systems function are jumping ship because they see the writing on the wall. It’s hard to keep morale high when you’re constantly waiting for the next round of restructuring to hit your department.
I don’t necessarily think platformization is just a mask for layoffs, though I get why people feel that way. Companies have to evolve to stay relevant, and Palo Alto is just trying to force cross-selling to keep growth numbers up. Is it stressful? Absolutely. Is the workload heavier? No doubt. But it’s a standard corporate pivot rather than a secret agenda to prune the workforce. The churn is frustrating, but it’s part of the industry shift toward consolidated security stacks. Just focus on your own output and don't let the corporate speak get to you.
