Anyone else getting weird vibes about the upcoming Q3 sync?

Is it just me, or does the invite list for the upcoming department all-hands feel a little broader than usual? I’ve been with the company for about six years, and usually, these calls are just a routine check-in on safety protocols and reliability metrics. This time, the language in the pre-read feels unnecessarily heavy on 'optimizing operational efficiency' and 'realigning resources for wildfire mitigation.' My manager has been radio silent about the actual agenda, and honestly, the silence is louder than the announcement would be. I’ve noticed a few contractors getting their access rights pulled early this week, which usually happens right before they start tightening the belt on the FTE side. Has anyone heard any whispers from the LOB heads about a potential re-org? I’m trying to decide if I need to update my resume this weekend or if I’m just being paranoid. The job market feels like absolute trash right now, so the thought of hunting for a new gig in the utility sector is giving me major anxiety.

I wouldn't overthink it, honestly. Every time we approach a new quarter with the current regulatory climate, leadership feels the need to puff up their chests and use 'corporate-speak' to appease the PUC. They’ve been using the same 'optimizing efficiency' buzzwords since the bankruptcy era. It’s likely just more of the same high-level fluff meant to make it look like they’re being proactive. Unless you're seeing individual calendar invites for 1-on-1s right after, it’s probably just another standard deck presentation.

That vibe check is spot on. Six years in, you know the drill—usually, when they start burying 'resource realignment' deep in the pre-read, layoffs or departmental restructuring are right around the corner. The radio silence from your manager is the biggest red flag here. They definitely know more than they’re letting on, and they’ve been told to keep their mouths shut until the slide deck goes live. Keep your resume polished and start pulling whatever records you might need; this feels like the prelude to a messy quarter.
