Anyone else noticing the hiring freeze in Commercial?

Is it just my department, or has the head count strategy shifted significantly over the last month? I’ve seen three open reqs in our group just disappear without explanation. Usually, we’re backfilling roles within a few weeks, but these have been dark since early August. I reached out to my manager, and the response was predictably vague—something about 'optimizing resource allocation' for the rest of the year. It’s hard not to read between the lines when the RTO mandates are getting stricter at the same time we’re being told to do more with less. Has anyone heard if this is a company-wide directive, or are we just tightening belts ahead of the Q4 earnings call? Getting a bit tired of the 'business as usual' emails while the org chart seems to be shrinking by attrition.

I'm in a different division, but the atmosphere is exactly the same. We had two budget-approved roles pulled last week right before offers were supposed to go out. The vague 'resource optimization' talk is just management code for an unofficial hiring freeze to keep the Q4 numbers looking decent for leadership. Don't expect those reqs to come back anytime soon; it feels like they’re prioritizing the RTO enforcement to thin the herd naturally before they actually announce any formal headcount reductions.

Same boat here. It’s honestly exhausting watching the goalposts move every time a new memo hits the inbox. We’ve been told for months that we’re understaffed and burning out, yet every time a position opens up, it gets locked by HR almost immediately. If they aren't going to backfill essential roles, the current workload is completely unsustainable. Everyone is just keeping their heads down and scanning the job boards because the lack of transparency is becoming impossible to ignore.
