Feeling the stagnation: Is growth even a priority?

Is it just my department or does everything feel like it's grinding to a halt? We’re being told to do more with less, but the 'synergy' initiatives are just making the day-to-day work impossible. I’m seeing teams losing people to attrition who aren't being backfilled, yet the output expectations remain exactly the same. It feels like the company is quietly shrinking the workforce through natural attrition to avoid the headlines of a formal layoff. I’m exhausted by the constant pivot in priorities. Everyone I talk to in the hallways seems to be looking for an exit strategy. If you’re currently working at PMI, do you feel like there’s actually a future here, or are we all just riding this out until the inevitable announcement? Genuinely curious if anyone has heard of actual departmental cuts coming down the pipe.

It’s not just your department. I’ve been watching the same slow-motion downsizing across the board for months now. They’re obsessed with these endless efficiency programs that look great on a slide deck but leave us drowning in the reality of the daily grind. Don’t expect the pressure to ease up anytime soon; the strategy is clearly to burn out the remaining staff while keeping the payroll lean. Start documenting everything and protect your sanity because management isn't looking out for the rank and file right now.

I hear you, but honestly, this is just the nature of the industry shift we're in. The company is pivoting hard toward the smoke-free vision, and that transition requires massive capital. Unfortunately, we’re the ones paying the price for that transformation through these impossible resource constraints. It’s frustrating as hell, but if you look at the quarterly reports, it’s all about protecting margins while they gamble on the new portfolio. Just keep your head down and focus on what you can control, because the culture isn't shifting back to how it used to be.
