Is the IQOS expansion stalling or just a strategic pivot?

Is anyone else feeling the shift in tone lately? I’ve been hearing a lot of talk about 'efficiency' in the latest town halls, but the messaging is vague as hell. There’s a weird tension in the air, especially in the US commercial org. It feels like every time we propose a new initiative, the answer is 'we’re focusing on core priorities'—which usually is code for headcount tightening. I’ve seen a few roles that were posted internally get pulled down without any explanation. Is it just me, or is the budget getting squeezed? If you’re in a support role, have you noticed your department heads being more stingy with travel and software approvals? I’m trying to figure out if this is just standard year-end tightening or if we should be bracing for a restructuring event by Q1. The silence from leadership is making everyone nervous. Drop a comment if you've seen the same pattern in your region.

It is definitely not just you. The 'core priorities' language has become the standard corporate shield lately. We are all seeing the same pattern—roles being pulled, vague guidance, and that undeniable pressure to do more with less. It feels like the company is holding its breath waiting for the next big regulatory move in the US, and in the meantime, middle management is just trying to keep the headcount locked down. The transparency is non-existent, and the shift in tone is palpable.

Honestly, I think we are witnessing a genuine pivot disguised as corporate jargon. IQOS is clearly the endgame, but the path to get there in the States is turning out to be much more expensive and complex than leadership originally let on. They are likely tightening the belt to buffer the balance sheet while they figure out how to navigate the FDA hurdles. It is frustrating to watch projects vanish, but it is just part of the current strategy to stay lean while they consolidate power.
