June 11th cuts: Is this the end of the Cincinnati campus vibe?

Is anyone else feeling the shift in energy since the 6/11 announcement? It feels like the 'cost-optimization' memo was just a polite way of saying the cuts are nowhere near finished. I’ve been hearing rumors that the middle management layer is getting gutted to favor more 'streamlined' digital integration, but let's be real—the workload for those of us left standing hasn't decreased by a single percent. My inbox is already a nightmare of project handovers from people who were here on Tuesday and gone by Wednesday. Are we just waiting for the next shoe to drop, or is leadership actually going to explain how we're expected to maintain these output targets with 1,600 fewer people? Seriously, the transparency here is becoming a joke. If they’re going to pivot to cheaper ad spend and automated workflows, they should at least have the guts to tell us what the long-term vision for the remaining headcount is, rather than letting us stew in these 'town halls' where nothing of substance is ever said.

The 'streamlined' talk is corporate speak for doing three people’s jobs for the same salary. I’ve seen this cycle before at the General Office, and it never ends with things getting more efficient—just more chaotic. If they keep gutting the middle management layer, the institutional knowledge is going to walk right out the door with them. It is getting harder to justify staying when the culture feels like a revolving door of layoffs. The campus vibe is definitely dead; now it is just survival mode.

I wouldn't hold your breath for things to settle down anytime soon. The leadership has been telegraphing this shift toward digital integration for a while, and unfortunately, human bodies are the easiest expenses to trim on a balance sheet. Everyone I talk to in the halls is just waiting for the next round of invites to hit their calendar. It is a grim reality, but at this point, you have to look out for yourself and assume your current project load is only going to get heavier.
