June 11th cuts: The 'cost-optimization' charade

So the news is finally hitting the trades—the CoStar report confirms the 1,600 number. We’ve been hearing the whispers about 'streamlining' for months, but seeing it on paper today is a different level of gut punch. Leadership keeps pushing this narrative about digital efficiency and 'realignment,' but we all know the truth. They’re gutting the headcount to make the quarterly margins look pretty for the street before the end of the fiscal year. I’ve been in my department for five years, and the atmosphere in the office today is toxic. People are literally sitting at their desks waiting for a calendar invite that means their badge access is getting cut. The 'care' emails from HR are such a joke. How do you talk about being a 'people-first' culture while simultaneously tossing thousands of us aside to pay for the latest ad-spend pivots? If you’re still in, watch your back. If you’re out, take whatever severance they offer and don't look back. This company isn't the same place it was even two years ago.

It is the same tired playbook every single year. They dress up these layoffs as strategic pivots or digital transformations, but it is always just a desperate grab for short-term stock performance. Anyone who has been here long enough knows that the 'efficiency' they preach is just code for increasing the workload on whoever remains. It is exhausting to watch them hollow out the talent pool just to satisfy Wall Street analysts who don't have to deal with the actual operations. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this move.

I am truly sorry to hear you are going through this. I survived the last two rounds of 'restructuring,' and the culture hasn't been the same since. It feels like the company has lost its soul in exchange for these microscopic margin bumps. They call it optimization, but it really feels like a slow-motion dismantling of everything that made this place functional. Take care of yourself, prioritize your mental health, and start quietly updating your network—this environment clearly isn't interested in supporting its people anymore.
