Anyone else noticing the 'performance improvement' uptick?

I’ve been at Progressive for a few years now, and the vibe has definitely shifted over the last couple of months. It feels like every meeting involves more scrutiny on individual metrics than ever before. We all know the drill—usually, when management starts leaning this hard into 'optimizing performance' and suddenly everything is urgent, it’s a precursor to a wider headcount reduction. I’m seeing more people in my department being put on PIPs out of the blue, even folks who were rated 'exceeds' last cycle. Is this just my department or is everyone seeing this weird pressure to document everything? Starting to feel like the atmosphere is getting toxic and I’m honestly just looking for a sanity check before I start updating my LinkedIn. It feels like they are clearing the deck for something, even if they aren't saying the words out loud yet.

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing in my department. It used to be a place where you could actually get your work done without someone breathing down your neck, but now it’s all about these arbitrary KPIs that nobody can hit. It feels incredibly calculated. They are definitely clearing the runway for something big, and the PIPs are just a convenient way to avoid paying severance when they do the mass layoffs. Keep your resume updated and start looking elsewhere now while you still have the leverage.

Honestly, it’s refreshing to see someone else call this out. Everyone is walking on eggshells lately, terrified that one missed metric will lead to a meeting with HR. It’s a total shift in culture from even six months ago. Management keeps talking about 'operational excellence,' but we all know that's just corporate speak for 'get ready for the cuts.' I’ve stopped engaging with the extra work and started quietly putting my feelers out for other opportunities. Don't let them make you feel like the problem when the system is rigged.
