Anyone else's 1:1s feeling weirdly transactional?

My manager used to be pretty chill during our 1:1s, but the last three meetings have felt like an interrogation. Suddenly, every tiny detail of my output is being documented, and there’s this weird pressure to 'prove' the value of my current sprint. I’ve been here for four years and have always had strong reviews, so this sudden hyper-focus on metrics feels like they are building a case for something else. Is this just a new management directive filtering down, or are they prepping to thin the herd? I’m honestly just tired of the anxiety. If there's an actual reduction in force coming, I’d almost prefer they just rip the band-aid off so we can stop pretending everything is business as usual.

That sounds like the classic Progressive corporate pivot. When they start treating long-term employees like new hires who need constant validation, it’s rarely about 'efficiency' and almost always about management covering their bases for potential layoffs or cost-cutting. Keep your head down, document your wins clearly in a private file, and start refreshing your resume. It sucks that four years of loyalty is being repaid with micromanagement, but trust your gut—they are definitely building a paper trail, whether it's for performance improvement plans or headcount reduction.
