Hiring slowdown at P? My team's been trying to backfill for months.

I'm in a department that's been trying to hire for a couple of critical roles for what feels like forever now. We've gone through multiple interview rounds, and candidates seem qualified, but then... crickets. HR says they're 'optimizing the process' or something similar, but it's starting to feel like more than just that. We've had people leave recently, and without replacements, the workload is really starting to pile up. It's impacting morale and our ability to deliver. Is this just my team's experience, or are others seeing a significant slowdown in external hiring, even for positions that seem essential?
