Anyone else seeing project freezes or scope cuts?

Just curious if others are experiencing similar things. My group was told a few upcoming projects are being put on indefinite hold due to "market uncertainty." We were also told to re-evaluate existing projects and "prioritize ruthlessly," which sounds like code for "cut anything that isn't absolutely essential." This comes after a few quarters of pretty lackluster sales reports for the industry as a whole. I haven't seen any official layoff notices, and my manager is playing dumb, but the activity (or lack thereof) feels like a precursor to something. Is this a sign of things to come? Trying to make sense of the signals here. Feels like management is being extra cautious with spending, which I get, but it's creating a lot of unease. Let me know if you're seeing similar trends in your areas.

Yeah, definitely feeling the pinch here too. We haven't had official project freezes, but the 're-prioritization' talk is constant. It feels like every new request gets a dozen questions about ROI and immediate impact, whereas before it was more about future potential. Resources are tighter, and the 'move fast and break things' mentality seems to have been replaced with 'don't break anything and also, can we do this cheaper?' It's creating a bit of a drag on innovation, for sure.

Interesting to hear about the market uncertainty justification. In my corner, it's more about internal shifts. We're seeing a significant push towards certain strategic areas, which naturally means other things are getting less attention or outright shelved. It's not explicitly 'cuts,' but the budget allocations clearly reflect a change in direction. Less about external factors, more about a top-down strategic realignment. Not ideal for teams whose projects are now 'less strategic,' but that's the game.
