Hartford site impacted, is this just the tip of the iceberg?

Saw the WARN notice hit for the 113 employees in Hartford. It’s supposed to go into effect mid-January, but we all know how this story goes. They start with these small, surgical cuts and then a month later the whole org gets a surprise calendar invite for a 'business update' that ends in a Zoom meeting with HR. I’ve been with QCOM for six years, and the atmosphere in the office is just soul-crushing right now. Leadership keeps talking about 'operational efficiency' and 'realigning resources,' but we’re just thinning out the talent while the stock price stays flat. Is anyone actually working on anything meaningful, or are we all just waiting for the axe to fall? My manager won't look me in the eye during our 1:1s, which tells me everything I need to know. If you’re in the impacted group, stay strong and start polishing the resume immediately. Don't wait for the severance packet to start networking.

The Hartford news is definitely unsettling, but it’s honestly just standard procedure for Qualcomm lately. They love to frame these layoffs as 'realigning resources' to keep the stock price looking pretty for shareholders. If you’ve been there six years, you know the drill: stay quiet, keep your head down, and keep your resume updated on the side. I wouldn’t count on the 'surgical' narrative; usually, once they start trimming the headcount in regional offices, it’s only a matter of time before they look at the bigger departments. Just look out for yourself, because the company certainly isn’t looking out for you.

I was reading the WARN notice earlier and it’s just bleak. Every time management starts throwing around phrases like 'operational efficiency,' the anxiety in the office spikes because we all know what follows. It’s impossible to focus on actual engineering work when you’re constantly wondering if you’re the next one on the chopping block. At this point, the morale at QCOM is non-existent. It’s hard to stay loyal to a place that treats employees like disposable assets on a balance sheet. Honestly, if you can find an exit door, take it now before the next round of 'business updates' happens.
