Seeing a lot of hiring freezes across divisions, is this normal?

Hey everyone, I've been at Qualcomm for about 4 years now, working in the Modem division. Lately, it feels like the hiring pipeline has completely dried up. Not just for new grads, but even for experienced roles. My manager mentioned we're on a strict hiring freeze, and it seems to be echoing across other teams I've spoken with informally. Normally, there's always some movement, even if it's slower. But this feels different, like a complete pause. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this across different business units and if this is a typical pre-layoff signal, or just a general market slowdown affecting us?

Yeah, I'm seeing something similar on the RF front. Been here 6 years and it definitely feels like a significant slowdown. Used to be you could post a req and get a bunch of candidates, but now it's like crickets. Management is being pretty tight-lipped about the specifics, just saying 'budget constraints.' It's a bit unsettling, to be honest, especially with the market the way it is.

Hiring freezes aren't unheard of, especially in cyclical industries. Qualcomm definitely has its ups and downs. Could be a reaction to market forecasts, a strategic shift, or just a temporary belt-tightening measure. Don't panic too much yet. Keep your head down, do good work, and focus on what you can control. If it persists for another quarter or two, then maybe it's time to re-evaluate.
