Wondering about the 'early' severance options I've heard rumors about

I'm in ASIC design, been here for 6 years. There's been some chatter on Teams about potential 'early voluntary separation packages' being discussed at higher levels. Has anyone actually received or heard concrete details about this? What kind of benefits are usually included in these? Like, would it cover continued health insurance for a decent period? And is there typically a bonus or stock payout tied to it? Trying to understand if this is something worth considering or just more noise. No one on my direct team seems to have real info, just speculation. Anyone have experience with these types of programs at QCOM or other semiconductor companies?

Heard similar rumblings myself, though nothing concrete. It's definitely unnerving when there's so much smoke. If it *is* happening, they usually try to make it attractive enough to get a decent number of folks to take it. Health insurance is almost always a big part of it, often for 6-12 months. Stock refreshers or a small bonus on top are also common, but don't expect miracles. Honestly, if you're comfortable and don't see any immediate red flags in your specific role, might be worth waiting to see what, if anything, materializes. Don't jump just because of rumors.

I've been through a voluntary separation program at a previous company. The key is to get the *actual* offer in writing before you even think about it. Rumors fly fast, and often they're exaggerated or just plain wrong. The details matter immensely – specifically the health insurance coverage duration and COBRA subsidy, any severance pay calculation (years of service times salary, usually), and what happens to your unvested stock options or RSUs. If they offer it, and it meets your personal financial goals and career path, then it's a conversation worth having. Otherwise, don't let the office gossip drive your decisions.
