Feeling the pressure: Performance expectations vs. support

Has anyone else felt like the goalposts have been moved significantly since the start of the year? I feel like I’m working 50+ hours a week just to hit the 'meets expectations' metrics, yet the support we’re getting from upper management is practically nonexistent. It feels like they are squeezing us to see who breaks first, likely so they don't have to pay severance if people just get burnt out and walk. I’ve been at RJ for a few years and it never felt this cutthroat before. It’s hard to tell if this is a company-wide strategy to trim the headcount organically or if my specific division is just being squeezed harder than others. Thinking about updating my resume this weekend just in case, because the current environment is becoming unsustainable.

It is definitely happening across the board. I’ve noticed the same shift in tone over the last six months. It feels less like a partnership and more like a numbers game where we are just line items on a spreadsheet. Don't burn yourself out trying to hit targets that they change whenever it suits them. Start documenting everything and keep your resume updated just in case. You aren't imagining the change; the culture has definitely cooled off recently.

I’m in the same boat. It feels like management is trying to thin the herd without making it official. The lack of resources combined with these inflated quotas is a recipe for disaster. I used to be proud of the culture here, but it’s feeling pretty toxic lately. If you’re already putting in 50+ hours, make sure you aren't sacrificing your health for a firm that clearly doesn't value retention. Take a step back and protect your peace while you look at other options.
