Is the 'optimizing footprint' talk just cover for more cuts?

Seeing the WARN notice come through for the Richmond location today makes me think the recent internal memos about 'efficiency' were definitely foreshadowing. It’s funny how they tell us we are a growth-oriented firm, yet every other week there’s a new round of head-count reductions. I’ve been at RJ for a few years now, and the atmosphere has shifted. There’s no transparency from leadership, and the 'open door' policy feels like a total joke right now. Everyone is just keeping their heads down, doing the bare minimum, and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Is anyone actually feeling secure in their role anymore? I feel like we’re all just waiting for the next calendar notification to show up on a Monday morning. Would love to hear if others are seeing this same trend in their respective departments or if it’s strictly isolated to the operations teams.

The 'optimizing footprint' language is corporate speak for cutting costs at the expense of loyal employees. I’ve seen this pattern before at other firms, and it never ends well for the staff on the ground. When they start using these buzzwords, it’s a clear signal to update your resume and start networking elsewhere. It’s disheartening to see the culture erode like this, especially when leadership refuses to be honest about the future. Keep your head down, but don't be naive about where this is heading.

It is frustrating to watch them tout 'growth' while simultaneously handing out pink slips. At this point, the transparency gap is massive, and it’s clear that management is prioritizing margins over the people who actually run the business. If they were really focused on growth, they wouldn't be gutting their physical locations and leaving everyone feeling insecure. Just focus on your own professional development and try not to get too invested in the company's internal messaging; it’s clearly not meant for our ears.
