Anyone else noticing the hiring freeze getting tighter?

Is it just me, or has the vibe in the office shifted over the last couple of weeks? I’ve been trying to get budget approval for a couple of critical backfills in our department, and finance has essentially gone dark on everything. Every time I follow up, I get the standard 'we’re reviewing priorities' boilerplate. I’ve been at ResMed for a while now, and this feels different than the usual end-of-quarter tightening. Usually, we can at least get a conversation going, but now it feels like a total lockdown. Are they planning to let natural attrition handle a headcount reduction, or are we bracing for a bigger announcement soon? I’ve been hearing whispers about some teams being asked to consolidate workflows, and honestly, the anxiety is starting to set in. If you’re in a core product group, have you heard anything about potential structural changes coming down the pipe before the next earnings call? Just trying to figure out if I should polish the resume now or if I’m just being paranoid.

Same here. I’ve been trying to push through a contractor renewal for months and it’s been crickets from finance. It definitely feels heavier than a standard quarterly squeeze. There’s a lot of chatter about leadership shifting focus to pure margin protection rather than growth, which is really killing the momentum in my team. I’m starting to wonder if we’re heading toward a broader restructuring or if they’re just prepping the books for something else entirely. Keep your head down and start updating that resume just in case.

Honestly, the silence from finance is the most telling part. When they go dark like that, it usually means the decisions have already been made and they’re just waiting for the right moment to announce it. I’ve seen this cycle before, and the 'reviewing priorities' excuse is almost always a precursor to a wider headcount reduction. It’s exhausting trying to keep projects afloat with no support, but I wouldn't expect those backfills to happen anytime soon. Protect your peace and look out for your own interests right now.
