I'm sorry you're going through this. It's incredibly draining to live in a state of constant uncertainty, especially when you’ve been working your tail off to keep the ship afloat. At some point, 'optimizing for the future' just feels like a hollow excuse for poor planning and leadership burnout. Take some time for yourself to disconnect; you’re more than your job title, and hopefully, you find a team that actually values the effort you put in. Wishing you the best with your next steps.
Watching the cycle repeat like this is honestly infuriating. It’s hard to stay motivated when you know that no matter how much you grind, the company sees you as just another line item on a spreadsheet to be cut. It sounds like they’re burning out their best people just to hit quarterly targets. Don't let their instability make you doubt your own skills. Take a breath, update that resume, and get out of there. There are plenty of places that would be lucky to have an engineer with your experience.
