Anyone else feeling on edge lately?

I've been at Rivian for almost 4 years now, in the battery management systems team. Things have been…weird, the last couple of months. There's this low-level anxiety that I can't shake. The VP of Engineering had a closed-door meeting with my manager last week, and since then, my manager has been super tight-lipped and stressed. I know budgets are always tight, but there's been extra scrutiny on expenses, even small things like ordering parts for testing. I'm not saying layoffs are definitely coming, but I've seen this movie before at my old company. Anyone else getting similar vibes? Trying to stay positive, but it's hard when you see the writing on the wall.

Hang in there. I remember similar vibes at Tesla back in '18. Intense focus on cost-cutting *always* precedes something. Could be a new funding round with strings attached, could be restructuring, or could be nothing and just regular paranoia. Polish your resume, update your LinkedIn, but don't jump ship prematurely. Sometimes these things blow over.

Four years in and *now* you're noticing the pressure? Welcome to the world of electric vehicles, especially startups. Rivian's riding high on hype, but they're bleeding cash. Scrutiny on expenses is standard operating procedure. Maybe it's time to stop reading into tea leaves and focus on delivering solid work. If you're valuable, you're less likely to be on the chopping block, regardless of what the VP is doing.
