Anyone else's manager suddenly very vague about performance reviews?

It's that time of year again, or it should be. My manager has been super cagey about setting up my 1:1 performance review. When I asked, they just said 'things are a bit up in the air right now, we'll get to it.' This is unusual, they're normally pretty on top of it. I'm in manufacturing engineering, been with Rivian for 4 years. Just feels like a weird deflection. Anyone else getting the runaround when it comes to performance discussions? Trying to figure out if it's a company-wide thing or just my specific team/manager.

That's definitely unsettling. I haven't experienced it directly in my department (software), but I've heard whispers that some teams are being asked to delay reviews. Could be related to budget constraints or shifts in leadership priorities. Hang in there, and keep a record of your performance and achievements. If things remain vague, consider reaching out to HR for clarification, but tread carefully.

Sounds like a classic 'we're evaluating things' maneuver. It's probably not personal. They might be reassessing roles, team structures, or even future projects, and your manager is instructed to avoid definitive statements until decisions are made. My advice? Document everything you've done. Prepare for your review as if it's happening tomorrow, and use objective data to highlight your contributions. If they try to brush you off again, politely but firmly ask for a concrete timeline.
