Just saw the WARN notice go live for the Portland location. 249 people let go effective September 20th. I knew things were quiet on the internal channels, but seeing the actual number is a gut punch. It’s wild how they kept this under wraps until the formal filing hit. My manager had been acting weird for weeks, refusing to talk about Q4 projections or any upcoming project roadmaps. Now it makes sense. If you are reading this and you were part of that group, I’m really sorry. The job market out here in Oregon isn't exactly firing on all cylinders right now. Does anyone have word on if this is just localized to the Portland hub or if there’s a broader restructuring happening at the corporate level? Seems like they are trimming fat ahead of the holiday season to hit some arbitrary margin targets. Stay safe out there.

This is absolutely brutal. I’ve been through a similar layoff before, and that feeling of the management team suddenly going silent is the absolute worst. It’s a classic sign, but you never want to believe it until the official notice pops up. I really feel for everyone impacted in Portland. Take the time you need to process this and please lean on your network—people are going to want to help. Don't try to handle the stress of this alone if you don't have to.

I’m honestly not surprised, though that doesn't make it any less devastating. The retail sector has been feeling the squeeze for a while now, and Ross is clearly trying to tighten things up before the fiscal year ends. It’s cold how they handle these transitions, keeping everyone in the dark until the very last second. To everyone affected, update your resumes immediately and start reaching out to recruiters. This is a tough break, but the skills you picked up there will be valued elsewhere.
