Ross Stores - Staffing levels seem thin everywhere

Walked into a few different Ross locations recently, and man, the staffing levels seem really low. Like, call-out-sick-and-the-whole-store-grinds-to-a-halt low. Associates are visibly stretched thin, juggling multiple tasks, and the customer service seems to be suffering because of it. I know retail is often lean, but this feels like more than just usual staffing challenges. It's almost like they're deliberately running on a skeleton crew. Could this be a sign of cost-cutting measures that might eventually lead to something more drastic? Or is it just a company-wide hiring freeze/difficulty finding staff? I'm not directly affected in terms of my role (yet), but I'm seeing this trend across different departments and locations. It's creating a lot of stress for the front-line employees and honestly, it's not a great look for the company. Wondering if anyone in management or HR has insight into what's going on with staffing. Is this a temporary thing or the new normal?

I've noticed the same thing! It's definitely more than just typical retail busyness. Associates are constantly on the go, and it's hard to find someone to help quickly. I saw one person trying to ring up customers, stock shelves, and answer questions all at once. It can't be easy for them, and I agree, the customer experience definitely takes a hit when everyone's spread so thin. Hope they can figure out a better balance.

Totally feel this. The service has definitely declined because of it. It's a shame because I usually love digging through Ross, but the frustration of not being able to find an associate when I need one, or waiting forever in a short line, makes it less enjoyable. It really does feel like a deliberate decision to cut corners on staffing, and it's impacting the overall shopping experience for customers and likely the employees too.
