Anyone else seeing the sudden freeze on requisitions?

Is it just my department or is everyone seeing a total lockdown on open headcount? I was tracking a few internal mobility opportunities for the last month, and suddenly everything has been pulled or marked as 'on hold indefinitely.' My manager is being extremely cagey during our 1:1s, using that classic 'we're re-evaluating our priorities for Q3' line. It feels like the calm before the storm. I’ve been through two cycles here already and this quietness—where leadership stops talking about growth and starts talking about 'streamlining core operations'—is usually the precursor to a bad Friday morning. Has anyone heard anything concrete from HR, or are we all just waiting for the other shoe to drop?

It is definitely not just your department. Everyone is feeling the exact same chill across the company right now. Those internal mobility postings vanished overnight, and the silence from the top is deafening. Whenever leadership starts using the 're-evaluating priorities' script, it usually means the budget was slashed and the hiring freeze is going to last through the end of the year, if not longer. I’ve seen this pattern before, and you’re right to be cautious. Start polishing your resume because this quiet phase rarely ends with good news.

I wouldn't read too much into the cagey behavior just yet, as managers are often kept just as much in the dark as the rest of us until the final call comes down. The requisition freeze is industry-wide and likely a standard reaction to current market fluctuations. It’s frustrating when you’re looking for a move, but sometimes it really is just a temporary shift in the strategy to get the numbers aligned for the next quarter. Stay focused on your current tasks and try not to panic until there is actually a formal announcement.
