That is absolutely gut-wrenching. I’m sorry for everyone caught up in this mess. It’s a classic corporate play to keep people in the dark until the very last second to prevent any kind of internal friction or productivity drop-off, but it leaves such a toxic wake for those left behind. I’ve been through a similar downsizing before, and the paranoia that sets in immediately afterward is suffocating. If you are still there, update your resume tonight and start putting feelers out. Don't wait for the ripple to hit your desk before you take control of your own situation.
Same old story with this leadership team. They love to act like everything is stable right up until they decide to slash headcount to hit some arbitrary quarterly target for the shareholders. The lack of transparency is the worst part—everyone deserves to know if their site is on the chopping block, but they prefer to keep people guessing. Expecting the worst is the only way to survive in this industry lately. If you have any friends in other divisions, keep lines of communication open, because information is the only currency that matters when the ship starts leaking like this.
