The internal landscape has definitely shifted. I’ve noticed the same pattern in my department; the focus is entirely on cutting operational costs and squeezing every bit of productivity out of existing teams. It’s frustrating because we’re being asked to deliver more with fewer resources while the leadership talks about long-term goals. Don't expect any backfills anytime soon—the budget freeze is hitting hard, and it feels like they are waiting to see how the next quarter pans out before making any permanent moves. Keep your head down for now and focus on hitting your KPIs while things are this volatile.
It’s not just you. The mood here has been pretty grim lately. I’ve watched several projects get scrapped overnight without much explanation, and the lack of communication from management is really fueling the anxiety. Everyone is talking about the hiring freeze in the breakroom, and it’s become obvious that headcount growth is no longer the priority. It feels like we are in a defensive posture, bracing for more cuts. I'm taking the lack of new reqs as a sign to tighten up my own savings and prepare for whatever comes next, because the atmosphere definitely isn't what it used to be.
