New to Snowflake - Is Now A Bad Time To Join?

I just accepted an offer as a SWE and my start date is next month. Now I'm seeing all this talk about layoffs, and I'm getting seriously worried. Should I be looking at reneging and finding something else? Has anyone joined recently and have any insight? I'm coming from a smaller company, and this was supposed to be a big step up. I'm second-guessing everything right now. Any advice would be appreciated - especially from other SWEs who have been through this sort of thing before.

Honestly, it's always a risk joining a company, especially with the market the way it is. However, Snowflake is still a strong player. I wouldn't panic yet. Wait until you start, get a feel for the team and environment, and see what's actually happening. Layoffs are scary, but sometimes the rumors are worse than reality. Keep your resume updated just in case, but give it a fair shot before jumping ship. Good luck!

I'd be a bit concerned. Snowflake's growth seems to be slowing, and the whole Frank Slootman departure thing is pretty big news. It's not necessarily a disaster, but definitely something to keep an eye on. If you have other solid offers, it might be worth seriously considering them. Reneging sucks, but your career comes first. At the very least, quiz your manager hard during onboarding about team stability and future projects.
