Rumor Mill Going WILD - Nervous about Future

Is anyone else's department completely paralyzed by the layoff rumors? I'm in Sales, and the chatter is deafening. Deal cycles are already slow, and this just adds another layer of uncertainty. My manager is stone-faced, won't say a word. I've been here for 3 years and have always exceeded quota, but I'm still sweating it. Wondering if I should start discreetly updating my resume, just in case. Anyone have any *real* insights, or is it all just speculation at this point? Anyone else's productivity taking a nosedive?

I feel your pain. Uncertainty is the worst. My team in Engineering is also walking on eggshells. Last time the rumor mill spun this hard, it turned out to be a 'restructuring' that eliminated several positions. Start polishing that resume, not because it's guaranteed, but because it puts YOU in control. Even if nothing happens, you'll be prepared. Good luck, sincerely.

Take it with a grain of salt. Layoff rumors are practically an annual tradition. Sales always gets the jitters because you're on the front lines. Remember last year's 'massive cuts' that never materialized? Focus on closing deals and hitting your numbers. Solid performance is the best job security, even in uncertain times. Keep your head down and do your job, that's what matters!
