The duck email incident is honestly the funniest internal disaster I’ve seen in years, but it’s definitely a bad sign. When a company hits this scale, the 'move fast and break things' mantra usually gets traded for corporate bloat and bureaucracy. If they're struggling to manage basic communication, it suggests the internal infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the layoffs and team shuffles. It feels like the magic is fading and being replaced by typical mid-sized corporate dysfunction.
I don’t know why everyone is so surprised by the state of things at Stripe lately. They’ve been scaling at a breakneck pace for a decade, and it was inevitable that the culture would eventually thin out. Seeing these cracks in the foundation isn't just about a weird email—it's about the erosion of the high-bar talent density they used to brag about. It’s becoming just another bank with a fancy UI. If you're currently there, I’d suggest watching your back and polishing your resume sooner rather than later.
