Another 5k gone at T-Mobile. What's the real strategy?

Just saw the news about another massive layoff at T-Mobile, around 5k people this time. June 7th. It's hard not to feel like we're just seeing the continued fallout from the Sprint merger. Remember all the talk about synergy and efficiency? Feels more like a bloodbath for middle management and folks who weren't 'essential' to the new structure. I know profits are supposedly good, which makes these cuts even more baffling from the outside. Are they just clearing out talent to make room for cheaper labor down the line? Or is there some internal shake-up happening that we're not privy to? Wondering what this means for the rest of us still here. Morale is probably in the basement. Anyone else feel this way? What are people hearing internally?
