I'm in a different department, but I've heard similar rumblings. Increased scrutiny on budgets, new performance metrics being rolled out seemingly overnight... it could be nothing, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking at ways to cut costs. Start quietly updating your resume, just in case. Better to be prepared than caught off guard. Networking wouldn't hurt either. Good luck!
Honestly, you might be overthinking it. Q4 is always a stressful time for retail, and that pressure inevitably bleeds into HQ. Plus, there's always gossip. Remember last year when everyone thought the VP of Sales was getting fired because he wasn't at the holiday party? Turned out he just had the flu. Maybe take a break from work chatter and focus on your tasks. See if the feeling persists in a few weeks.
