Why does management think 'process optimization' isn't a layoff?

I’m so tired of the corporate speak. We just sat through another 'all-hands' where they kept using terms like 'realigning resources' and 'process optimization' while everyone in the room knew exactly what it meant. Nobody is fooled. When you cut 136 roles in one go, just call it what it is—a layoff. The lack of transparency is what actually destroys morale, not the cuts themselves. People wouldn't be half as cynical if they didn't have to decode a memo full of buzzwords just to figure out if their department is still going to exist on Monday. I’ve been looking at the postings for these 'realignment' roles they keep pushing us toward, and it’s clearly just a way to shed tenure and bring in cheaper labor. If you’re currently on the chopping block, don’t buy into the 'we’re all a family' talk. Polish that resume, hit the networking boards, and don't look back once you get an offer elsewhere. This company doesn't remember your name three days after you exit the building.

Corporate buzzwords are honestly the most insulting part of the whole process. Using phrases like 'process optimization' to describe someone losing their livelihood is spineless. It treats employees like line items on a spreadsheet instead of actual human beings. If leadership actually respected the people who built this company, they would just be direct about the situation. This cowardly habit of hiding behind HR jargon just makes it impossible to trust anyone in management ever again.

I have been through three rounds of these 'realignments' now, and the script never changes. They act like we can’t see the empty desks or the sudden lack of access to internal systems. It is patronizing to stand there and talk about efficiencies while you are actively gutting the team. We all know 'optimizing' is just a fancy way to cut costs while keeping the stock price stable for another quarter. The constant gaslighting is exactly why productivity is at an all-time low.
