Anyone else notice the sudden travel budget freeze?

Is anyone else getting weird vibes from leadership lately? I’ve been in the medical device space for a while and I know the signs, but the complete halt on non-essential travel and the sudden 'efficiency audit' email from last Tuesday feels like they’re preparing the books for a haircut. My manager won’t answer direct questions about Q2 project funding, just keeps repeating that we need to be 'mindful of resources.' It’s frustrating because we’re hitting our KPIs, but the silence from the upper levels regarding the restructuring rumors is deafening. Has anyone heard anything about potential department consolidations, or are they just tightening the belt to make the margin look better for shareholders? Really hoping this isn't another round of 'streamlining' that just ends up dumping double the workload on whoever is left standing.

Seen this script play out way too many times before. The 'efficiency audit' language is classic corporate speak for cleaning up the balance sheet before a major shakeup or an acquisition. When management starts dodging questions about Q2 funding despite you hitting your KPIs, it usually means the decision-making power has already been taken away from your direct supervisors. Protect your data, keep your resume polished, and don't take the 'mindful of resources' line at face value. The silence from the top is definitely intentional.
