Concerned about department budget cuts, anyone else hearing this?

Hey everyone. Been at Tesla in the [specific department, e.g., Powertrain Engineering] team for about 4 years now. Lately, there's been a lot of hushed talk about budget reviews and potential cuts coming down from senior leadership. My direct manager is being super cagey, just saying 'we're optimizing resources.' Sounds like corporate speak for layoffs to me. Anyone in similar departments hearing the same whispers? Trying to gauge if this is a company-wide thing or just our corner of the world. Worried about job security, especially with recent market fluctuations impacting other auto companies.

Yeah, I'm in [different department, e.g., Manufacturing Ops] and we've been hearing rumblings too. 'Resource optimization' is definitely the phrase of the day. It's unnerving, for sure. My advice? Start updating your resume and networking discreetly. Even if it's not company-wide, it's always better to be prepared. Keep your head down for now, but don't ignore the signs.

Hmm, I haven't heard anything specific about budget cuts in my team within [another department, e.g., Software Development]. We're pretty busy with current projects. It's possible it's department-specific or maybe just in areas experiencing slower growth. 'Optimizing resources' could also just mean shifting priorities or consolidating teams. Let's hope it's not as bad as it sounds for you.
