Just saw the official WARN notice for the Austin site and the numbers are exactly what the rumors were saying. It’s 2,688 people. That is a massive chunk of our workforce gone in one sweep. I know everyone has been speculating about the Supercharger team cuts, but seeing it on paper for the Texas facility makes it real. Some of the folks impacted had been here since the ground-breaking. It’s hard not to look over your shoulder every time a calendar invite pops up from HR. I’ve seen some people arguing that this is just 'trimming the fat' to get ready for the next phase, but the level of talent walking out the door—engineers, production leads, program managers—it’s going to be a nightmare to maintain the current output, let alone scale. If anyone is in the same boat, make sure you check your severance paperwork twice. Don't sign anything until you're sure you aren't leaving money on the table.

That’s a brutal number to see confirmed in black and white. I feel for everyone caught in this wave, especially those who were there from the very beginning. The atmosphere in the office must be absolutely toxic right now with that constant fear of another HR invite landing in your inbox. It’s impossible to stay productive or feel secure when you’re constantly wondering if you’re next. I hope everyone affected lands on their feet quickly, because being blind-sided like this after years of dedication is just a rough way to do business.

Finally, the speculation stops and the reality sets in. 2,688 people is a massive loss of institutional knowledge, regardless of what the leadership claims about streamlining. The sheer scale of these layoffs suggests a complete shift in priorities that feels detached from the people who actually built the place. It’s hard to imagine morale recovering anytime soon when management treats the workforce as such a disposable asset. Stay safe out there—it sounds like the climate in Austin has become completely untenable for the long-term staff.
