Well, it finally happened. Got the call this morning. After 3 years as a software engineer working on Autopilot, I'm officially part of the Tesla layoff club. Still in shock. HR meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the details, but I'm trying to get a sense of what kind of severance package I should expect. I know it varies based on tenure and role, but if anyone who's been through this before could share their experience, it would be incredibly helpful. Also, any tips for negotiating a better package would be appreciated. This whole thing feels surreal. Guess I'm back on the job market...

From what I've gathered (and I *strongly* suggest you confirm this with an employment lawyer), Tesla severance is typically 2 weeks of pay per year of service, plus any unused vacation time. However, that's just a baseline. Negotiate for more! Emphasize your contributions to Autopilot, any positive performance reviews, and the difficulty of finding a similar role quickly. Good luck!

Three years should get you something decent. Don't go in expecting a gold mine, though. Remember they are laying off for a reason. Take whatever they offer initially but don't be afraid to counter - maybe ask for extended health insurance or outplacement services. Start networking *now*, and good luck in your job search. Plenty of companies are hiring software engineers.
