Three years should get you something decent. Don't go in expecting a gold mine, though. Remember they are laying off for a reason. Take whatever they offer initially but don't be afraid to counter - maybe ask for extended health insurance or outplacement services. Start networking *now*, and good luck in your job search. Plenty of companies are hiring software engineers.
