Anyone else seeing a major slowdown in internal mobility?

Been at TI for a few years now, and historically, moving between teams or departments felt pretty fluid, especially if you had good performance. Lately, though, it's like the internal transfer portal just... stopped. Applied for a couple of internal roles that looked like a perfect fit, even had good networking conversations with the hiring managers. But crickets. Hearing whispers from friends in other divisions that headcount approvals for internal moves are getting scrutinized way more than before. It feels like they're really trying to keep headcount flat, or even shrink it, without officially saying anything. Is this just my experience, or is anyone else seeing internal mobility dry up? Makes you wonder what the long-term plan is if they're not even letting people shift around.

I've noticed it too. It used to be that if you were a strong performer, opportunities to grow internally were more readily available. Now, it feels like there's a significant bottleneck, with approvals taking much longer or simply not happening. It's a bit discouraging when you're looking to develop your career within the company and the pathways seem to be closing off. Hopefully, this is a temporary situation and not a sign of a permanent shift in how internal talent is managed.

Yeah, the internal job market feels really stagnant right now. I've seen colleagues who were previously able to jump to new roles within a reasonable timeframe now stuck in their current positions, even with strong performance records. The word on the street is that budget constraints and tighter approval processes are the main culprits. It's definitely making career progression feel more challenging than it used to be, and it's a bit disheartening.
