Anyone else noticing the travel budget lockdown?

Is it just my department, or is everyone seeing the massive crackdown on T&E? My manager basically told us yesterday that all non-essential travel is off the table until the end of the year, even for customer-facing stuff. Every time they start tightening the belt on travel, it’s usually the precursor to a broader 'optimization' strategy. I’ve been through two cycles here already, and the vibe in the office feels exactly like it did in 2020. The leadership calls are becoming increasingly vague about growth and hyper-focused on 'margin protection.' If you're looking at your calendar for Q4, are you seeing your travel requests getting bounced back to HR/Finance too? Just trying to figure out if this is a systemic shift or if my cost center is just being targeted for a trim.

Same here. Our team got the exact same memo last week regarding the travel freeze. It’s definitely not just your department; it feels like they’re trying to squeeze every cent out of the budget to make the end-of-year numbers look better for the shareholders. The 'optimization' talk is always code for headcount reductions, and honestly, the silence from upper management about the long-term outlook is making everyone I work with pretty uneasy. Keep your head down and start polishing the resume just in case.
