Middle management seems suddenly absent

Is it just my sector or has anyone else noticed a strange vacuum in leadership lately? For the past two weeks, every time I try to get a signature for a standard process approval, the directors are either 'in an off-site meeting' or completely non-responsive. We’re hearing the usual rhetoric about the record backlog and how we need to hit Q4 milestones, but the folks who usually crack the whip are nowhere to be found. It feels like the calm before a storm. My direct manager is suddenly being very tight-lipped about next month’s project roadmap, which is a departure from their usual transparency. I’m not saying there’s an official RIF announcement, but the energy in the office—and on Teams—is incredibly jittery. If you look at the recent patterns, it feels like they are clearing the deck for a restructuring plan. Has anyone heard any whispers from the Wichita or Fort Worth offices? Checking in to see if I’m just being paranoid or if the wind is shifting.

Same experience here in the aviation division. It’s like they’ve all vanished into a black hole of strategy sessions. I’ve had three urgent approvals sitting in my queue for days while the backlog pile grows higher by the hour. Whatever they are planning behind closed doors, it usually trickles down to us as more overtime and tighter deadlines, but the current radio silence is definitely unsettling. I suspect we might be looking at some internal restructuring or budget clawbacks before the fiscal year wraps up.

You aren't imagining things. I’ve noticed the same trend across the site lately. It’s strange because the pressure to deliver is at an all-time high, yet the people responsible for clearing our roadblocks are unreachable. When leadership goes ghost, it usually means something big is shifting under the surface, probably related to those Q4 targets. Don't worry about the lack of direction; just keep your head down and document every delay so you have a paper trail when they finally decide to resurface.
