Anyone else getting the 'reorganization' email today?

Woke up to a calendar invite for a 'team update' meeting this afternoon. The subject line is super vague, no agenda attached, and my manager has been ducking my 1:1s all week. Given the recent rumors about the 30k headcount reduction floating around the sub, I’m panicking a bit. I’ve been at Optum for four years and have always gotten strong performance reviews, but I know that doesn’t mean much when the C-suite decides they need to juice the stock price. Is anyone else in the [Redacted] department seeing these weird invites? I’m hearing rumblings that the Ecorse office and some of the remote support teams are getting hit hard today. Just trying to figure out if I should start downloading my personal files or if I’m just being paranoid. Honestly, if this is the end, I’m just ready to know so I can stop checking my email every five minutes.

The 'vague calendar invite' is a classic sign that management is preparing for a cull. I went through the same thing last cycle at Optum, and honestly, the performance reviews don’t matter when the layoffs are corporate-driven mandates to hit headcount targets. My advice is to stop stressing over the 1:1s and start downloading your personal files and contact lists to a local drive immediately. If you have any internal documentation that proves your value, save it now just in case you need to argue for a higher severance package later.

I am so sorry you are going through this limbo. It is honestly predatory how they handle these notifications. Please remember that your worth as an employee has absolutely nothing to do with these arbitrary headcount reductions meant to appease shareholders. If it happens, take a breath, file for your unemployment, and do not sign any separation agreements until you have had a chance to fully review them or consult someone. You’ve put in four years of hard work, so don’t let a faceless corporate decision diminish your professional achievements. Hang in there.
