I am so sorry you are going through this. Please do not wait for the formal meeting to start preparing. If you are in the Lorton office, reach out to your network immediately and start saving any non-proprietary performance reviews or accomplishments you might need for future applications. Regarding the severance, it has historically been standard for the company, but don't count on anything until the paperwork is in your hand. Stay strong and keep your head up—this is a reflection of corporate mismanagement, not your value as a professional.
At this point, it feels like the company is just throwing darts at a map to see where they can trim costs. Everyone knew the 30k target was looming, but seeing it hit Lorton in such a cold way right before the holidays is just soulless. If you got one of those invites, take a deep breath and start documenting everything. The severance packages are usually pretty bare-bones, so prioritize your mental health today and worry about the paperwork once the shock wears off. We are all just numbers to them.
