Anyone else hearing whispers about Q3 headcounts?

Is it just me, or does the vibe in the office feel off lately? I’ve been seeing more vague 'strategic alignment' meetings popping up on everyone’s calendars, and the leadership town halls have been pretty light on substance regarding growth. I know we had that rough patch a while back with the 475 cuts, and honestly, the anxiety never really left the building. I’m in the banking side and we’ve been told to watch our discretionary spending like a hawk. It feels like they are tightening the screws again without actually saying the word 'layoff.' Has anyone in claims or IT heard anything concrete, or are we just reading too much into the silence? I’m trying to decide if I should start brushing off the resume or if this is just standard corporate paranoia. Seems like nobody wants to go on record, but the rumors are definitely swirling on the floor.

The 'strategic alignment' language is basically corporate shorthand for another round of cuts. I’ve seen this script play out before, and it never ends with more jobs. If they are cracking down on discretionary spending, it’s a clear sign the budget is being stripped to make the quarterly numbers look better for leadership. Start updating your resume now rather than waiting for the official announcement, because banking is always the first place they look when they need to balance the books.

I honestly think the anxiety is just the new normal here. It feels like we are in a permanent state of restructuring, where the goalposts move every few months. While it’s stressful to constantly hear about headcounts and tighter budgets, try not to burn yourself out reading too much into every calendar invite. Keep your head down, do the work, and just keep an eye on your options elsewhere. We’re all just numbers on a spreadsheet to them at the end of the day.
