I hear you loud and clear. It’s the same story across almost every department I talk to lately. They keep preaching 'mission-focused efficiency,' but when you cut the headcount to the bone, you lose the institutional knowledge that keeps the place running. Spending more time tracking work than actually doing it is the fastest way to burn out good people. Honestly, the KPIs don't reflect reality anymore, and I think management knows that but chooses to ignore it to keep the metrics looking pretty for the board.
Hang in there. I’ve been feeling that exact same squeeze for months now. It feels like every time someone leaves, their workload just evaporates into the remaining team’s lap with zero reduction in our output expectations. The disconnect between the corporate strategy meetings and the actual desk-level grind is getting wider every day. Don't let the gaslighting get to you—you’re only one person, and if the system is designed to fail because they refuse to staff appropriately, that’s on them, not on you.
