Is anyone actually safe in the Pacific Northwest?

It feels like we’re back to the 'death by a thousand cuts' strategy. With the 54 roles cut yesterday in WA, I’m trying to figure out if there’s a pattern or if leadership is just throwing darts at a map again. I’ve been with VZ for over a decade, and this used to be a company where you could plan a career. Now, every time I see a calendar invite from HR with an ambiguous subject line, my heart stops. Does anyone know if this is just the tail end of the Q3 adjustment, or are we expecting another round before the fiscal year ends? I’m exhausted by the constant pivot toward 'streamlining' while our actual workloads just balloon. If you’re in a similar boat, are you already putting out feelers, or are you waiting to see if the 'retraining' bait actually leads to a real job?

The pattern here is clear as day if you stop looking for logic in their strategy. They aren't throwing darts; they are aggressively trimming headcount to inflate margins before the end of the fiscal year. Being in the Pacific Northwest doesn't make you a target, but your tenure certainly does. They are systematically purging the higher-paid, veteran staff to replace them with cheaper contractors or offshore teams. If you’ve been there over a decade, you are essentially a liability on their spreadsheet regardless of your performance. Start polishing your resume now, because these adjustments are part of a continuous cycle of downsizing, not a one-time event.

It is honestly exhausting reading these posts every few months. I’ve been through four rounds of cuts in the last three years, and the reality is that no region is safe. Leadership is obsessed with hitting arbitrary metrics to keep the stock price propped up, and the easiest way to do that is cutting the people who actually keep the lights on. Don't look for a pattern in the geography or the job titles—it's just a numbers game at this point. If you’re still waiting for a 'tail end' of these adjustments, you’re missing the bigger picture. This is the new normal at VZ, so do what you have to do to protect yourself.
