Is Verizon shifting focus away from traditional roles?

Seeing these layoffs in Washington, coupled with all the talk about retraining and automation, makes me question where things are heading. They've been talking about efficiency and streamlining for a while. It feels less like a single bad quarter and more like a strategic pivot. Remember those articles about selling off media assets? Or the big retraining initiative? This latest round of cuts, even if smaller than some past ones, feels like part of that larger picture. Are they trying to shed legacy operations or roles that are becoming less critical? Trying to stay positive and focus on my own skills, but it’s hard not to feel a sense of unease about job security in general within the company. Wondering if anyone has insights into what these moves actually signify for the future workforce.

It's definitely concerning to see the continued shifts. The focus on efficiency and automation seems to be a recurring theme across many large corporations right now, not just Verizon. The question is whether these changes are truly about adapting to a changing market or a more drastic re-evaluation of their core business and workforce needs. The media asset sales were a pretty clear indicator that they were looking to streamline operations and perhaps focus on core connectivity services. This feels like a continuation of that strategy, though the human impact is, of course, the most difficult aspect to witness.
