Just got the axe - My rant!

Been with Verizon for 7 years as a project manager. Just got the news today. Another round of cuts, apparently. "Restructuring" is the word they used. I feel completely blindsided and honestly, pretty pissed off. Seven years of dedication, good performance reviews, always went above and beyond... and this is how they repay me? The worst part is the way they handled it - a quick 15-minute meeting with HR and my manager, a bunch of corporate jargon, and then escorted out the door. I poured my heart and soul into this job, missed birthdays and anniversaries working late, and for what? I know a lot of you are probably scared, and rightfully so. It sucks. This company doesn't care about its employees, just the bottom line. Rant over.

That sucks to hear. Similar thing happened to me at a different company after five years. The "restructuring" excuse is such a cliché. It's cold comfort, but you're definitely not alone. Start networking and updating your resume ASAP. Lean on your contacts – you'd be surprised who might be able to help. Good luck with the job hunt; you'll land on your feet.

Seven years is a long time, and getting canned like that is brutal, no doubt. But let's be real, Verizon is a corporation. Loyalty doesn't really exist. Did you notice any red flags in the weeks leading up to this? Changes in management, project cancellations, weird comments in meetings? Sometimes those clues are there. Regardless, time to move on; learn from this. File for unemployment immediately.
