That sucks to hear. Similar thing happened to me at a different company after five years. The "restructuring" excuse is such a cliché. It's cold comfort, but you're definitely not alone. Start networking and updating your resume ASAP. Lean on your contacts – you'd be surprised who might be able to help. Good luck with the job hunt; you'll land on your feet.
Seven years is a long time, and getting canned like that is brutal, no doubt. But let's be real, Verizon is a corporation. Loyalty doesn't really exist. Did you notice any red flags in the weeks leading up to this? Changes in management, project cancellations, weird comments in meetings? Sometimes those clues are there. Regardless, time to move on; learn from this. File for unemployment immediately.
