Rumblings in Network Engineering - Anyone else nervous?

I've been with Verizon for almost 10 years, primarily in Network Engineering. Lately, things have felt...off. Budgets are tighter than ever, projects are getting pushed back, and there's been a lot of talk about 'efficiency' in meetings. My skip-level even made a comment about 'streamlining operations' last week. Has anyone else in Network or related departments been feeling this way? I'm starting to think a reorg or, worse, layoffs are on the horizon. I really can't afford to lose this job right now, so any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I'm in a similar boat over in the Northeast region. I'm not in Network Engineering directly, but I work closely with them, and the vibe is definitely tense. We've seen a hiring freeze for months, and several long-term contractors weren't renewed. The 'efficiency' buzzword is a HUGE red flag. Start updating your resume, just in case. It never hurts to be prepared, especially if your gut is telling you something's up.

Honestly, this happens every few years with Verizon. They always talk about cutting costs and reorganizing. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about layoffs just yet. It could be a standard cost-cutting measure before they roll out some new initiative. I'd wait and see what happens in the next quarter before getting too worried. Focus on your work, make sure you're hitting your targets, and try not to get caught up in the rumors.
