Just saw the news hit the wire this morning about the 54 headcount reduction in Washington yesterday, July 17. It feels like every time we turn around, there’s another 'restructuring' memo hitting the inbox. I’m currently based in one of the impacted regional offices and the energy here is absolutely dead. We were promised that the previous waves were the end of it, but it’s becoming clear that nobody is safe unless you're essentially untouchable or have a very specific niche. Is anyone else hearing rumors about more cuts following this, or are they pivoting to focus on the East Coast for the next round? I’m trying to decide if it’s time to start polishing the resume and getting out before the next severance package looks even worse than the current offerings.

I was in the office yesterday when the news dropped, and the silence was deafening. It’s the same old story—leadership calls it 'operational efficiency,' but for those of us on the ground, it just feels like we're being hollowed out one department at a time. The 'no more layoffs' narrative has completely lost all credibility. At this point, it’s not a matter of if, but when your number comes up. I’ve stopped checking my email with any sense of security. Just keeping my head down and updating my resume tonight.

Honestly, why are people still surprised? Verizon has been telegraphing these moves for months. When you prioritize stock buybacks and dividends over long-term stability, this is exactly what happens. It's a revolving door of headcount reductions designed to satisfy Wall Street while the actual service quality and morale tank. If you’re still holding onto the idea that loyalty gets rewarded here, you’re in for a rude awakening. Take the severance if it’s offered, grab your gear, and find a company that actually values its human capital.
