Boone site cuts: Is this the end of the remote experiment?

Just saw the filings for the Boone facility. Another 200+ folks gone. It feels like the company is slowly gutting every department that isn't sitting in the C-suite's direct line of sight. I remember the emails from leadership about 'efficiency' and 'working harder' right before they started slicing off huge chunks of the org. Now, it feels like they are specifically targeting anyone who isn't physically planted in an office seat. If you're remote, start prepping your resume now. I’ve been through two rounds of this already and the 'culture' shift is brutal. The atmosphere is just pure dread—everyone is staring at their Slack status waiting for it to go dark. Is there even a strategy here anymore, or is it just cutting heads until the numbers look good for a quarter? I’m exhausted.

It is honestly exhausting watching the constant cycle of layoffs while leadership stays silent on the actual strategy. I worked in the Boone office for years, and the vibe shift has been palpable since they started pushing the RTO mandates. If they are willing to cut that deep into established teams, nobody is safe regardless of their output. They keep talking about efficiency, but you can’t run a tech-focused company by burning through institutional knowledge every few months. Everyone I know is already updating their LinkedIn profile because the writing is clearly on the wall.

I don’t think this is just about being in an office seat, it is about the company’s bottom line and trying to look attractive to shareholders after a rough few quarters. Remote work is an easy scapegoat for them, but cutting these departments won't fix the underlying issues with their business model. It is a shame to see so many talented people get the boot. If you are still there, keep your head down, do your work, but definitely keep your options open elsewhere. Loyalty to these firms rarely pays off when the leadership team starts panicking.
