Hindsight: What were the red flags before the Wayfair layoffs?

Looking back at the recent layoffs at Wayfair, I'm trying to piece together what the signs were. Obviously, the CEO's email about working longer hours felt like a huge red flag in hindsight, especially coming right before major cuts. Were there other indicators people missed? Maybe slowdowns in hiring, budget freezes, or changes in project priorities? I know some people were let go in Canada too, which suggests it wasn't just a US-centric issue. Curious to hear from anyone who was impacted or was close to the situation. What were the whispers, the subtle shifts, the things that in retrospect screamed 'layoffs are coming'? Trying to learn from this for future situations.

I remember there was a lot of chatter about their rapid expansion in the years prior. It felt like they were trying to grow at all costs, and sometimes that kind of aggressive growth isn't sustainable long-term. The CEO's comments about working harder were definitely concerning, especially when paired with the news of layoffs. It felt like a classic case of demanding more from employees right before cutting the workforce. It's tough to see people lose their jobs, and I hope those affected land on their feet quickly.
