Is anyone actually safe in Home Lending anymore?

With the recent WDM notice, I’m genuinely curious if the company has a set number they are trying to reach by the end of the year, or if we’re just getting trimmed whenever leadership decides the volume metrics don’t look good. The vibe in the office is completely checked out. I’ve been looking at the internal board and it’s mostly crickets, but the chatter on the floor is all about who’s updating their LinkedIn profile. It feels like they are slowly sunsetting the entire domestic mortgage operation to push everything to lower-cost regions. Has anyone seen any clear signals from management about what the target headcount is for Q1? I’d rather know now if I need to start aggressively interviewing elsewhere than get blindsided by a 15-minute 'business update' call in December. It’s hard to stay focused on these Q4 goals when I don’t even know if I’ll have access to the systems in six weeks.

Honestly, stop waiting for the other shoe to drop and just protect yourself. The culture there has been hollow for years, and leadership has shown repeatedly that they view Home Lending as a liability rather than an asset. If you are waiting for a clear signal or a confirmed number, you’re only delaying the inevitable. The internal silence is by design—they want people to attrition out quietly so they don't have to deal with severance or public optics. Update that resume and get out while the job market is still somewhat viable for your skill set.

It is brutal watching the slow-motion collapse from the inside. I’ve seen three rounds of cuts this year alone, and every time, management insists it’s just a realignment of volume metrics. At this point, the mortgage division feels like a graveyard shift operation where the only goal is to minimize overhead until there is nothing left to trim. Don't waste energy trying to read the tea leaves or guessing the 'magic number'—there isn't one. The strategy is clearly just attrition by anxiety, and it’s clearly working.
